Differences in Cultural Frame of Reference.
Ogbu, John U.
International Journal of Behavioral Development, v16 n3 p483-506 Sep 1993
Distinguishes between voluntary minorities or immigrants and involuntary minorities who came to another culture against their will or as refugees. Also distinguishes between primary cultural differences that existed before two cultures met and secondary differences that arose after contact. Argues that involuntary minorities have difficulty with academic achievement in majority cultures as a result of secondary cultural differences. (BC)
