Marsh, Herbert W.; Richards, Gary E. – 1987
The construct validity of responses to the Tennessee Self Concept Scale (TSCS) was evaluated in two sets of analyses. First, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, and an analysis of variance model adapted from multitrait-multimethod (MTMM) research, were used to examine the internal structure of the TSCS responses. Second, MTMM analyses…

Marsh, Herbert W.; O'Neill, Rosalie – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1984
The Self-Description Questionnaire III (SDQ III) was designed to measure 13 factors of self-concept. The reliabilities of the factors were high, and correlations among them were low. Academic achievement measures in language and mathematics were correlated with self-concepts in the same areas but not with other self-concept factors. (Author/DWH)

Marsh, Herbert W.; And Others – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1983
Test-retest data (six-month interval) collected on preadolescent student self-concepts, teachers' ratings of student self-concepts, and academic ability provided strong support for the construct validity of self-concept. The multiple dimensions of self-concept showed a logical and consistent pattern of relationships with a variety of criteria.…

Marsh, Herbert W.; Ellis, Louise A.; Craven, Rhonda G. – Developmental Psychology, 2002
Developed and tested the psychometric properties of the 38-item Self Description Questionnaire for Preschoolers. Found that the scale was reliable for young children, first-order and higher order confirmatory factor analysis models fit the data, and factor correlations were mostly moderate. Achievement test scores correlated moderately with…

Marsh, Herbert W.; And Others – American Educational Research Journal, 1985
The Self Description Questionnaire II (SDQII) results from 901 Australian secondary school students were factor analyzed and the factors correlated to identify the relationship of self-concept factors to age, sex, and academic achievement. Findings supported the multidimensionality of self-concept and support the construct validity of the SDQII.…

Marsh, Herbert W.; Craven, Rhonda; Debus, Raymond – Child Development, 1998
Used new administration procedure of Self Description Questionnaire to assess dimensions of young children's self-concept in a multicohort-multioccasion study. Found that the scale's reliability and stability improved with age and from one year to the next. Gender differences were stable over age. Time 1 teacher ratings contributed to the…

Marsh, Herbert W.; Richards, Garry – 1986
The Outward Bound Bridging Course is a 6-week residential program designed to improve academic achievement and self-concepts in low-achieving high school males. During 1980-1984, five courses were conducted for 66 Australian high school males. Most of them were ninth grade students, chosen on the basis of poor academic performance, an apparent…
