Star Power: Providing for the Gifted & Talented. Module 3. Applications of Theories of Intelligence to the Gifted/Talented.
Heinemann, Alison; Mallis, Jackie
The document presents Module 3, applications of theories of intelligence to the gifted/talented, of the Star Power modules developed for school personnel who have an interest in or a need to explore the area of gifted and talented education. It is explained in an introductory section that the modules can be used for independent study, for small group interaction, or for a large group inservice program. Part I focuses on J. Piaget's theory of intellectual development, while Part II covers B. Bloom's taxonomies of the cognitive/affective domains and A. Harrow's taxonomy of the psychomotor domain. Each part is divided into sections with the following: enabling objectives (such as explain the implications of Piaget's work for educators and apply elements of the psychomotor domain to classroom activities for young gifted/talented students); rationale to establish a frame of reference; preassessment tests and evaluation; instructions for scoring the preassessment instrument; activities (which cover such topics as assigning children to the appropriate Piagetian stage based on observation); and postassessment procedures.
