Lawrenz, Frances; Dantchik, Arthur – School Science and Mathematics, 1985
Investigated developmental and/or sex components of energy attitudes using Kuhn's Energy Opinionnaire. Results indicate that changes in student attitudes through grade levels are consistent with cognitive and affective development literature and that sex differences are more pronounced in older students (with females having a more external world…

Gennaro, Eugene; Lawrenz, Frances – Journal of Chemical Education, 1989
An overview of a program to overcome the lack of activity and relevancy in the elementary school by providing elementary students with hands-on science experiments that they can complete at home is given. Activities for second- and third-grade students are described and results are discussed. (CW)

Lawrenz, Frances; Orton, Robert E. – School Science and Mathematics, 1989
Investigates similarities and differences of science and mathematics teachers' teaching practices related to critical thinking. Compares the two groups of teachers in terms of objectives and assessment techniques, teaching preferences, various activities, and use of cooperative groups. Reports the results for all of 53 items. (YP)

Lawrenz, Frances – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1987
This study compared the classroom environments as perceived by fourth-grade, seventh-grade and high school boys and girls in classes taught by males and females to determine if any perceptual differences existed. The analyses showed no differences for fourth-grade students, one for seventh-grade students, and three for high school students.…

Lawrenz, Frances; Huffman, Douglas; Appeldoorn, Karen – Journal of College Science Teaching, 2005
A survey of 55 colleges showed that the learning environments in introductory science courses are not always as supportive as they should be. Furthermore, most innovative teaching techniques, as recommended by the National Science Education Standards (NRC 1996), are used only occasionally, despite students viewing them as helpful.

Lawrenz, Frances – School Science and Mathematics, 1985
Describes changes in teacher attitudes after completion of an inservice energy education workshop. Although there was a decrease in favorable attitudes towards curricular change, there was a modest, positive effect on participants (N=132) which should help to promote energy education. (DH)
