Inhibitory Control in Young Children and Its Role in Emerging Internalization.
Kochanska, Grazyna; And Others
Child Development, v67 n2 p490-507 Apr 1996
Examined inhibitory control as a quality of temperament that contributes to internalization in toddler and preschool children. Children's internalization was observed while they were alone with prohibited objects, and in scenarios that occasioned violating standards of conduct, and were assessed using maternal reports. Found that inhibitory control was significantly associated with internalization, both contemporaneously and as a longitudinal predictor. (HTH)
