The research project investigated participation and achievement in apprenticeships by young people from minority ethnic groups across a number of regions and occupational sectors. It sought views on the value and status of apprenticeship, and factors influencing take-up, retention and achievement, and how this may be improved. The project objectives were to examine: (1) the current level of participation and achievement across the apprenticeship frameworks for young people from across minority ethnic groups compared with other learners; (2) the facilitating or inhibiting factors affecting participation, including perceptions of the value and status of apprenticeships; and (3) the role of providers and employers in encouraging and supporting participation by learners from minority ethnic groups in apprenticeships.
