The Learning Web--an alternative educational organization discussed in this paper-matches high school students with adults who can teach them a skill. Staff members either contact a young person who has been referred by a school, or a young person initiates contact with the organization. An intake interview is followed by placement of the apprentice with a compatible mentor. Termination forms are used to secure written evaluations from the mentor, the apprentice, the parents, and the staff. Thus, the procedures used for intake, placement, and termination constitute a key structural feature of the organization and provide a good test of the realization of educational goals. (Author/LD)
