A report is made on the results of seven studies of KPU (Knowledge Production/Utilization) productivity by SCDEs (Schools, Colleges, and Departments of Education) in which the productivity measure was available through sources independent of the SCDEs themselves. Sources investigated included (1) publications in educational journals, (2) documents stored in the RESOURCES IN EDUCATION file of ERIC, (3)published books in education, (4) presentations at national conventions of educational associations, (5) KPU projects in education funded by private foundations, (6) KPU projects in education funded by other agencies, and (7) the institutional source of terminal degrees of faculty of SCDEs. Relative performance of SCDE types is given according to these sources, and SCDEs are classified according to productivity. Sources of highest degrees of SCDE faculty are investigated to determine the influences of various categories of SCDEs upon the future staffing of research center SCDEs, influence that is not directly reflected in their current level of KPU productivity. The final portion of this report is a contrast of SCDE/non-SCDE productivity as drawn from the seven sources above. (MB)
