The Columbia Classroom Environments Project...Final Progress Report, February 1973.
Grannis, Joseph C.
The study reported in the first part had two major goals: the construction of a pupil role interview schedule and the use of this interview to measure the influence of different programs in Project Follow Through on pupil role development. The second part of this report concerns a content analysis done by the Columbia Classroom Environments Project (CCEP) on the interviews of 480 children in the Pupil Role Interview Study during the spring, summer, and fall of 1972. The third part of this report argues that any variable element of the educational environment, be it the initiation of interactions, physical movement, the selection of topics, or any other, can be construed as controlled by the teacher, controlled by the teacher and learner jointly, or controlled by the learner, at or over intervals of time. It is further argued that congruence in the control of the various elements of the educational environment at a given time contributes to the realization of objectives and that teacher controls, joint teacher and learner controls, and learner controls, are each more appropriate for a different category of educational objectives.
