During the report period the researchers were primarily engaged in the spring data collection and in drawing up the outlines of the 1971-72 and 1972-73 phases of the study. This activity involved a great deal of conceptualization and inspection of raw data, toward the end of clarifying the theoretical frame of reference and the purpose and procedures of further data collection and analysis of both the description and the evaluation phases of the study. The report includes six sections. Sally Kaminsky examines teachers' roles in different classroom settings or subsettings. Steve Lehane discusses teachers' and pupils' nonverbal behavior in different classroom settings or subsettings. The development of procedure for mapping the autonomous and integrated behavior of pupils is explored by David Jackson and Joseph Grannis. George Rand and Joseph Grannis discuss Preliminary Considerations for the Design of Evaluation Settings for 1971-72. Joseph B. Roberts discusses the Development of Children's Concept of School Learning Interview.
