This student guide is designed to assist individuals who are either entering or reentering the job market in developing job hunting skills. Included in the guide are activities addressing the following aspects of finding and keeping a job: first steps in looking for a job (identifying one's skills, interests, and personality traits); procedures for planning a job campaign (building an information network and personal support system, developing contacts, gathering information about an area of work, and keeping records); decision making (considering financial needs, employment goals, job options, relocation, self-employment, and military or civil service careers); techniques for communication with employers (completing job applications and writing resumes and cover letters); job interviews (distinguishing between legal and illegal questions, making a favorable impression on an employer, writing an interview followup letter, and dealing with rejection); and steps in keeping and advancing in a job.
