Black Women in Black and White College Environments: The Making of a Matriarch.
Fleming, Jacqueline
Journal of Social Issues, v39 n3 p41-54 1983
A survey of 500 Black female freshwomen and seniors at two Black and four predominantly White colleges revealed that adverse conditions at White schools are more likely to encourage self-reliance and assertiveness. Supportive conditions at Black schools encourage social passivity and may undercut academic gains made at Black schools. (Author/ML)
