Field, Dorothy – Child Development, 1977
This study examined the effects of providing training in identity, reversibility, and compensation explanations, alone and in every combination, for eight matched groups of 48 mildly retarded, nonconserving children. (Author/JMB)

Field, Dorothy – Child Development, 1981
In a replication study, children 3 and 4 years old were given verbal rule training in order to probe the importance of identity, reversibility, and compensation explanations in training number and length concepts. Among the results, as before, identity was found to be the most significant factor in conservation acquisition. (Author/RH)

Field, Dorothy – 1979
This report analyses justifications gathered in a series of studies which led intellectually normal infants' school and nursery school children and mildly mentally retarded special day school children to acquire conservation understanding. Two hundred and five children were given a pretest of number, mass, length, liquid, and weight conservation.…

Field, Dorothy – 1978
This paper is a progress report on a series of experiments which have sought to probe the cognitive development of mildly mentally retarded and normal children, using conservation training as the principal research tool. Three- and 4-year-old children were given Verbal Rule instruction in a 2 x 2 x 2 design intended to probe the importance of…

Field, Dorothy – 1978
Two studies explored the possibility of inducing conservation understanding in intellectually normal preschoolers and mildly mentally retarded children of comparable mental age. Retarded children, MA 3-10 to 5-0, received Verbal Rule instruction. Three- and 4-year-old children were given Verbal Rule training in a 2 x 2 x 2 factorial design…
