The chapters in this volume summarize and analyze the first ten years of data of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics. Mary Corcoran and Martha Hill analyzed the economic burden of unemployment among heads of households. James Morgan takes various methodological approaches in studying the determinants of the number of work hours of male heads of households and of changes in work hours. Greg Duncan proposes an empirical model of wage change. Richard Coe analyzes the determinants of food stamp use among the poor. Mary Corcoran investigates the measurement error in models of status attainment which include as predictors young men's reports about the status of their parents. Martha Hill and James Morgan focus on dimensions of occupation and describe the component characteristics of jobs and workers on those jobs and the uneven way in which the usual occupation code represent them. In addition, research going on outside the Survey Research Center using Panel Study data is summarized. A copy of the questionnaire used in the 1977 phase of the Panel Study is included. (Author/EB)
