New court decisions that have claims like those of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) versus Yeshiva University case are described, along with the impact of the Yeshiva decision. Information on 1985 work stoppages is also provided. In addition to abstracts of the recent decisions regarding Cooper Union and Lewis University, findings are described of the 1984 NLRB case in Universidad Central de Bayamon. Nearly 6 years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Yeshiva faculty were managers and as such were not entitled to bargain under the protection of the National Labor Relations Act. During this time period, there have been about 55 Yeshiva-like claims that have resulted in, for the most part, an upholding and reiteration of the "Yeshiva doctrine." One reason for a recent reduction of Yeshiva litigation is that many in the academic collective bargaining community view the Yeshiva case as moot. In addition, Yeshiva has virtually brought about a complete halt in union organizing at private colleges and universities. Thus far, attempts to extend Yeshiva into the public sector have been minimal. A calendar showing the current status of each Yeshiva claim is included.
