New decisions of the National Labor Relations Board and/or its Regional Directors concerning claims like the "NLRB v. Yeshiva" case are briefly described. The cases of the following schools that have filed Yeshiva-related claims are outlined: Florida Memorial College, College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery (COMS), Stevens Institute of Technology, Kendall School of Design, Seton Hall University, Nasson College, Lewis University, Parsons School of Design, and English Language Institute of American University. The article concludes that the outcome of each of the cases was predictable since the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) utilized the standards set forth by the U.S. Supreme Court in the Yeshiva decision. The union victories in Florida Memorial, Kendall, Lewis, and American all occurred at institutions where the faculty possessed little, if any, managerial authority. For the decisions at COMS, Stevens, and Seton Hall, the NLRB declared previously certified units as no longer being able to bargain collectively under the protections of the National Labor Relations Act. The article on medical faculty unionization contains survey findings for a sample of U.S. and Canadian medical schools. Most of the medical schools where faculty bargained collectively did so as part of system-wide bargaining units. A 1983-1984 workshop schedule and registration form conclude the document. (SW)
