Criss, Michael M.; Pettit, Gregory S.; Bates, John E.; Dodge, Kenneth A.; Lapp, Amie L.
Child Development, v73 n4 p1220-37 Jul-Aug 2002
Examined how peer acceptance and friendships moderated the link between family adversity and child externalizing behavioral problems. Found that peer acceptance in kindergarten and Grade 1 moderated the relationship between family adversity measures and externalizing behavior problems in Grade 2; friendship served as a moderator for harsh discipline. Found no significant association between family adversity and child externalizing behaviors at high levels of positive peer relationship. (Author/KB)
