This teaching guide provides teachers of young children with a philosophy and guidelines for teaching that address children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. The guide describes a curriculum that offers teachers guidance, support, and freedom to be creative and responsive with children, and provides children, including disabled children, with a carefully organized and rich environment. Topics discussed in Part 1 of the guide are: (1) the philosophy of the creative curriculum; (2) goals and objectives of children's development; (3) the physical environment of the classroom; (4) methods for meeting the needs of individual children; (5) schedule and routines; (6) the organization of children's learning; and (7) parents' role in the creative curriculum. Part 2 describes in detail what and how children learn, and the teacher's role in supporting children's development by means of the following interest areas: blocks, house corner, table toys, art, sand and water, library, music and movement, cooking, computers, and outdoors.
