Explains the purposes and process of compiling a compendium of descriptive case studies of university environmental studies programs in operation in North America today. Compares this collection with other sets of case studies. Contrasts some of the changes from a similar study done a decade ago. (TW)

This article attempts to help teachers conceptualize science-related social issues and provides assistance in teaching such issues. Two teaching approaches are recommended: the case study approach and the investigation skills approach. Instructional goals are outlined, and each of the two teaching approaches is analyzed. (IAH)
