Leaders Helping Leaders: A Practical Guide to Administrative Mentoring.
Daresh, John C.; Playko, Marsha A.
This book promotes professional development through the use of mentoring and provides guidance to educational planners and school administrators who wish to adopt, develop, design, implement, and evaluate inservice teacher education programs to train mentors. The first part of the guide presents: information for planning and implementing a structured mentoring program; purposes and benefits derived from mentoring; kinds of training programs available; a mentoring background quiz; experiences from existing training programs regarding identification of potential mentors; and an assessment system that tracks administrator's effectiveness with data and solid documentation. The remaining sections of the book provide a more complete view of what mentoring is; explore some of the major issues associated with planning, implementing, and evaluating a mentoring program, and offer practical advice designed to make the program an important part of administrative leadership development efforts at the district level. Three appendixes provide answers to the mentoring background quiz that appeared in chapter 1, mentoring scenarios, and a mentor-protege action planning form. (LL)
