Corn, Anne L. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1983
A model is proposed that organizes factors related to visual function into three dimensions: visual abilities, available resources and past experiences, and environmental cues. The model is explained to be useful in determining how to elicit visual behaviors or maximize visual function in persons with low vision. (Author/CL)

Corn, Anne L.; Bishop, Virginia E. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1984
The Test of Practical Knowledge was used with 116 blind and visually impaired adolescents. Most of the demographic variables had little or no relationship to acquired practical knowledge. Furthermore, legally blind-visually impaired students had more difficulty in acquiring practical knowledge than did their totally blind peers. (Author/CL)

Rosenblum, L. Penny; Corn, Anne L. – RE:view, 2003
This article suggests ways that families of children with visual impairments can promote the travel skills of their children. Lubke, Cindy; Corn, Anne L. – Journal of Visual Impairment and Blindness, 1983
Low vision services to help visually impaired students maximize their use of residual vision are provided through a multidisciplinary regional clinic team in a sparsely populated area of Texas. Workups give classroom teachers information on techniques and optical aids. (CL)

Lusk, Kelly E.; Corn, Anne L. – Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, 2006
This is the second part of a two-part report of a study about the instruction of children who are learning or using both braille and print simultaneously (dual media). It explores the instructional methods and curricular decisions of teaching dual media to students with low vision and reports the students' current literacy levels and reading rates…

Lussenhop, Krista; Corn, Anne L. – RE:view, 2002
This article reviews literature on the issue of whether it is preferable to teach students literacy skills using large print or using standard print with optical devices. Findings indicate reading standard print with optical devices is as effective a literacy medium as large print and, perhaps, a more effective one. (Contains references.) (CR)

Corn, Anne L.; Wall, Robert S.; Jose, Randall T.; Bell, Jennifer K.; Wilcox, Karen; Perez, Ana – Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, 2002
Initial reading speeds across grades show points at which children with low vision are at risk of developing low literacy skills. Outcome group measures showed that 185 children (grades preK-12) who received optical devices increased their silent reading speeds and comprehension rates. Findings indicate optical devices assist in deciphering text.…

Corn, Anne L.; Koenig, Alan J. – Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness, 2002
A study involving 40 experts in teaching literacy skills to students with low vision identified the levels of direct and consultative instructional services needed for teaching literacy skills to such students. Findings support the need to provide consistent, direct instruction in almost all areas of literacy and literacy-related skills. (Contains…
