Forms and Functions of Adolescent Peer Aggression Associated with High Levels of Peer Status.
Prinstein, Mitchell J.; Cillessen, Antonius H. N.
Merrill-Palmer Quarterly, v49 n3 p310-42 Jul 2003
Two studies examined concurrent and longitudinal associations between adolescents' aggression, victimization, and high status. Findings indicated that both provocateurs and targets of reputational aggression had high levels of peer-perceived popularity. Proactive aggression was also associated with high popularity, while reactive aggression was associated with low social preference. High peer-perceived popularity and low social preference predicted all forms of aggression over a 17-month interval. (Author/KB)
