Optimal Information Storage Rate for Reading Prose. Final Report.
Carver, Ronald P.
This is the final report on a research project that measured the effect of reading rate on accuracy and the efficiency of reading comprehension. At the outset of the project, existing research data were integrated into a comprehensive account called a "rauding theory," which interrelates reading ability, passage difficulty, reading time, and passage comprehension. With this theory as a foundation, this report consists of four separate studies: (1) Optimal Rate of Reading Prose, (2) Constancy of Reading Rate, (3) Reading Comprehension Under Normal and Speed Reading Conditions, and (4) Measuring Absolute Amounts of Reading Comprehension Using the Rauding Rescaling Procedure. Each study includes appropriate figures, tables, and a bibliography. (MAI)
