This study, the tenth in a series, presents college language registration and student contact hour data for all modern and classical language programs in the United States. The body of the report consists of 24 tables summarizing the data, and a directory of the 2,353 institutions that reported registrations in one or more foreign languages. Summer school data for 1971 programs are also provided. To facilitate the study of trends in foreign language registrations over the 10-year period between 1960 and 1970, registration data from the surveys undertaken in 1960, 1965, and 1968 have been incorporated into this report. An institutional directory is provided. A section on foreign language registrations in institutions of higher education by state and institution for fall 1970 is appended with a sample report form used in the survey.
