Instructional Improvement Centers in Higher Education. Chapter 8.
Bratton, Barry
This chapter contains a description of the research strategy and subsequent results of a study that was conducted to gather information about Instructional Improvement Centers (IIC) in higher education. An IIC is an organization that is charged with facilitating the improvement of those competencies of faculty members that will lead to an improvement of teaching and learning. Data collected via a literature review and questionnaires covered four areas: (1) staff and organization; (2) professional activities; (3) financial support; and (4) philosophy and future direction. The data are analyzed and discussed under the four headings, and conclusions concerning appropriate actions in each of the four areas are given. A five-item bibliography is provided, as well as a list of the institutions that provided data for the survey. (Author/EW)
