Bakermans-Kranenburg, Marian J.; van IJzendoorn, Marinus H.; Bradley, Robert H. – Review of Educational Research, 2005
Are preventive early childhood interventions effective in improving home environments, as assessed with the HOME inventory (Caldwell & Bradley, 1984)? The authors traced 48 published articles, presenting 56 intervention effects (N = 7,350). The combined effect size on the HOME total score was d = 0.20 (p less than 0.001). Randomized…

Bradley, Robert H. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1981
A longitudinal investigation was made of the relationship between home-environment processes when children are between 3 and 5 years of age, and children's classroom behavior in the primary grades. Comprehension showed the largest number of significant relationships with early environment variables. (Author/GK)

Bradley, Robert H.; Caldwell, Bettye M. – Child Development, 1980
Significant correlations were obtained between Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment (HOME) Inventory scores and two clusters of items from the Bayley Scales of Infant Development: goal directedness and language use. HOME assessments were made when children were 6 and 12 months old; the Bayley was administered at 12 months.…

Bradley, Robert H.; And Others – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1993
Examined the mediating role of the home environment on the relationship between IQs of mothers and their low birthweight children. Results indicated that the IQ of children at three years was related to maternal IQ and measures of home environment when children were one and three years of age. (BB)

Bradley, Robert H.; Caldwell, Bettye M. – 1976
The development of environmental process measures marks a significant step forward in the assessment of environment quality. As Bloom (1964) predicted, these measures have made it possible to more clearly delineate the relationship between environment and development. Although factorial structure of many process instruments is open to question,…

Bradley, Robert H.; Caldwell, Bettye M. – Child Development, 1984
Examines (1) the relationship between children's scores on the Home Observation for Measurement of Environment (HOME) Inventory and their achievement test scores, and (2) the relationship between children's intervening home environments and their school achievement. Data were gathered from 37 normal first-grade children and their families.…

Bradley, Robert H.; And Others – Research in Developmental Disabilities, 1992
Construction, field testing with children with disabilities, and analysis of the preliminary version of the Preadolescent Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment (PA-HOME) are described. The paper concludes that the assessment is a reasonably reliable scale with moderate correlations with other measures of the family environment.…

Bradley, Robert H.; And Others – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1977
The ability of an environmental process measure and socioeconomic status (SES) measures to predict Stanford-Binet IQ at 3 years of age was compared in a separate analysis by sex and race. The environmental process measure predicted IQ as well as a combination of process and status measures, and was superior to SES measures alone. (Author/CP)

Bradley, Robert H.; Caldwell, Bettye M. – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1982
Examines the relationship between consistency in the home environment during the first two years of life and children's intelligence test performance at age three. Results are discussed in terms of race and sex differences exhibited by 72 White and Black subjects. (MP)

Bradley, Robert H.; And Others – Developmental Psychology, 1989
Results indicated a fairly consistent relationship between Home Observation for Measurement of Environment (HOME) scores and children's developmental status in spite of the fact that there were some ethnic and social status differences in the relationship. Measures of specific aspects of the child's home environment were more strongly related to…

Bradley, Robert H.; And Others – Child Development, 1988
Examines home environments of children aged ten and eleven when they were six months and two years old. Significant correlations were observed between the home environments at two and ten years, children's achievement test scores, and classroom behavior. Home environment at six months was related to a minimal number of classroom behaviors. (RJC)

Bradley, Robert H.; And Others – International Journal of Behavioral Development, 1987
Examines the early development of low birthweight infants and its relationship to five categories of medical and environmental variables: (1) health; (2) family status; (3) family context; (4) family process; and (5) parenting. Results indicated that scores on the Bayley Mental Development Index at 18 months were related to all five categories of…

Bradley, Robert H.; And Others – American Journal on Mental Retardation, 1989
The usefulness and validity of the 3 versions (Infant-Toddler, Early Childhood, and Middle Childhood) of the HOME Inventory were studied with 261 children with cognitive, hearing, vision, or orthopedic handicaps. The Inventory in its original form and a modified form was subjected to analysis of reliability, construct validity, and criterion…

Bradley, Robert H.; Corwyn, Robert F. – Merrill-Palmer Quarterly, 2001
Role of self-efficacy beliefs as a mediator and moderator of the relation between the home environment and well-being was examined for both European American and African American adolescents.
