Organized around 15 tasks involved in the community-based programming (CBP) process, this book provides practical, field-tested guidance on successfully implementing CBP in community colleges. Following prefatory materials, the following chapters are provided: (1) "An Introduction to the Community-Based Programming Process" (Edgar J. Boone), reviewing the role of community colleges in CBP and necessary skills; (2) "The Community College's Mission and Milieu: Institutionalizing Community-Based Programming" (George B. Vaughan), focusing on the first three of the processual tasks in CBP; (3) "Environmental Scanning" (Brian Nichol), addressing tasks 4 through 6; (4) "Identifying Target Publics and Stakeholders: Building a Coalition" (John M. Pettitt and Rosemary Gillett-Karam), focusing on the intended outcomes of processual tasks 7 through 10; (5) "Developing and Implementing the Plan of Action" (Edgar J. Boone, Wynetta Y.
