This report provides highlights and updates regarding state actions on child care, early education, and school-age care issues during 2001. It is intended to serve as a supplement to "State Developments in Child Care, Early Education, and School-Age Care 2000" and various reports published on this issue between 1997 and 1999. Information in the report was collected through written and telephone surveys with advocates or an administrator in each state. A draft was reviewed for verification by an advocate or a state child care administrator in each state. Following an introduction summarizing some of the findings and recent trends, the report provides information in the following areas for each state: (1) overall funding; (2) subsidy eligibility; (3) subsidy copayments; (4) subsidy reimbursement rates; (5) other subsidy policies; (6) tax credits; (7) training and compensation; (8) child care facilities; (9) licensing provisions; (10) infant and toddler care; (11) school-age care; (12) odd-hour care; (13) special needs care; (14) prekindergarten, Head Start, and collaboration; (15) early literacy; (16) other quality and supply initiatives; (17) planning and local involvement; (18) promoting business involvement; and (19) changes in child care administration.
