Research literature on trustees and boards and their role in governance is reviewed. Four cases prepared in conjunction with this inquiry are presented that illustrate the critical role process plays in leading to wise decision-making. The pros and cons of academics on boards are examined and some tactics and strategies following these findings are presented and advanced as techniques boards might adopt to achieve their aims more effectively.
