Monitoring the Future: Questionnaire Responses from the Nation's High School Seniors, 1978.
Bachman, Jerald G.; And Others
The document presents descriptive statistical results from a national survey which examines values and lifestyles of high school seniors. The volume, fourth in a series, presents data from 1978; other volumes report results from 1975, 1976, and 1977. The report is presented in three sections. The introduction describes the study, the sample, and research limitations. The sample consisted of students from 131 public and private high schools across the United States. Participants were administered questionnaires by representatives of the project. Although attitudes related to drug use received the most extensive coverage, the questionnaires also dealt with attitudes about government, social institutions, racial relations, changing roles for women, educational aspirations, occupational aims, and marital and family plans. The descriptive results section, the major portion of the document, presents all questions contained in the survey along with the frequency distribution of answers. The third section presents a cross-time index of questionnaire items which includes a key for locating items dealing with a specific subject area. Appendices discuss sampling errors and present instructions and a page from the questionnaire. (KC)
