Despite the growth of nursing doctoral programs, less than 50% of nursing faculty have doctorates. Existing programs' strengths include clinical research and self-scrutiny. Limitations are quality of students, graduate admission test scores, number of part-time students, student age, faculty and program quality, and success in preparing students for careers. (SK)
