Signaling of Noncomprehension by Children and Adolescents with Mental Retardation: Effects of Problem Type and Speaker Identity.
Abbeduto, Leonard; And Others
Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, v40 n1 p20-32 Feb 1997
Noncomprehension signaling by 16 school-age children with mild mental retardation was compared with performance of 16 typically developing children matched for nonverbal mental age. Message type and speaker were manipulated in a direction-following task. Message type, not speaker, influenced noncomprehension signaling, with no intergroup differences identified. Performance on a receptive language ability test best predicted noncomprehension signaling. (Author/DB)
