Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings and Standards Innovation Configuration Map: Integration Guide for Teachers--Version 1.0

The Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings and Standards (OSEUS), a vision of many individuals, tribes, and organizations for several decades, were realized through legislation in 2007. In 2021, the South Dakota Department of Education, South Dakota Department of Tribal Relations, Office of Indian Education, and Region 11 Comprehensive Center invited 25 South Dakota educators to participate in a work group to develop an Innovation Configuration (IC) Map to support teacher use of the OSEUS. This Integration Guide provides shared descriptions that are organized according to key components that work group members identified as necessary for implementation. The IC Map can be used by teachers in several ways: (1) self-reflection on ways to improve implementation; (2) as the structure for planning, observing, and follow-up conversations during observations; and (3) to identify learning needs and corresponding priorities for professional development.
