This is the second "Profiles" report to examine nonprofit education management organizations (EMOs). This report is modeled after the 11 annual "Profiles" that cover for-profit EMOs. While the number of schools operated by for-profit EMOs grew rapidly in the 1990s and is now leveling off, the number of schools operated by nonprofit EMOs has been growing more steadily and steeply over time. Three appendices are included: (1): Reader's Guide; (2) Data Sources by State; and (3) Methods for Compiling School Profiles. Appended are: (1) Reader's Guide; (2) Data Sources by State; and (3) Methods for Compiling School Profiles. (Contains 6 figures, 4 tables and 1 footnote.)
