Living on a Cotton Farm: Mexican American Life in Texas.
Black, Mary S.
This packet of six lesson plans highlights Mexican-American life on a Texas cotton farm in the early 20th century. Each lesson provides a lesson overview; states educational objectives; cites materials needed; details the procedure for classroom implementation; offers a closure activity; and suggests an extension activity. The packet is divided into eight sections: (1) "Suggested Assessments"; (2) "Suggested Daily Agendas for 50-minute Classes"; (3) "LP1 Living on a Cotton Farm: Mexican-American Life in Texas"; (4) "LP2 Mapping Immigration from Mexico to Texas (Student Handout)"; (5) "LP3 Graphing Hispanic Population Growth" (Student Handout); (6) "LP4 Sharecropping: Life on a Cotton Farm" (Student Handout); (7) "LP5 Living in a Farm House" (Student Handout); and (8) "LP6 Playing Marbles" (Student Handout). Appendix A contains 10 photographs and drawings of daily activities at the tenant farm and of archaeological activity at the site. Appendix B contains Spanish translations of the six lessons. (BT)
