This guide aims to help teachers provide appropriate instruction for young people about the United States flag and flag etiquette. The guide was developed as a result of legislation (House Bill 630) enacted by the Missouri General Assembly in 1997. Following an introduction, the guide is divided into the following sections: (1) "Statutory Authority" (gives the complete text of the law); (2) "Ideas for Instruction in Flag Etiquette" (presents 10 different activities for both young and older students); and (3) "Resources" (includes school and public libraries, organizations, and web sites). Two appendixes provide excerpts from the Flag Code and State Board of Education's regulation on flag etiquette. (BT)
