This booklet presents materials and practical suggestions to help substitute teachers working in the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), Maryland. Section 1 discusses Substitute Teaching in Montgomery County Public Schools. It includes four sections: Professional Expectations (eligibility, duties and responsibilities, classroom control and discipline, corporal punishment, alcohol and drug free workplace, confidentiality, inclement weather, and MCPS policies and regulations); Working with Students; Advice for Substitute Teachers; and Important Telephone Numbers. Section 2, "Using the Automated Substitute Calling System," includes How Substitutes Receive Assignments, Registering with the Automated Calling System, Accepting an Assignment, Receiving a Call From the Computer, Calling Times, Changing Your Telephone Number, Reviewing and Canceling Jobs, Prearranged Assignments, Tips on Using the System, and Rotary Telephones. Section 3, "Marketing Yourself," explains how to search for open substitute jobs. Section 4, "School Telephone List," lists the telephone numbers for all schools within the MCPS. (SM)
