Family and Career Transitions Resource Guide (FACT). A Resource Guide for Use in Adult Job Readiness and Single Parent Homemaker Instructional Programs.
Ohio State Dept. of Education, Columbus. Div. of Vocational and Career Education.
This resource guide introduces a curriculum designed to help instructors meet the needs of special adult audiences--displaced homemakers, single parents, dislocated workers, and economically depressed families. It is organized according to four practical problems: (1) personal development; (2) career exploration; (3) employability; and (4) resource management. For each practical problem, a series of related concerns are presented. Within each concern, one or more modules are provided. Each module consists of a chart with three columns: process skills column that highlights the practical reasoning process; concepts column that refines the module topic; and strategies column that suggests a variety of instructional strategies. Handouts and worksheets are at the end of each module. An introductory practical reasoning module is designed to teach the process used throughout the guide and focuses on teaching those thinking skills in a problem-solving situation that many adult learners find themselves facing. Module topics include the following: adult development, self-esteem, values and attitudes, change, conflict management, personal skills, interests, employment trends, career options, career decisions, work attitudes, applications, interviews, salaries, employer expectations, work stress, commitment to work and family, parenting concerns, budgeting, credit, savings, child care, time management, family law, and consumer law.
