Restorative Nurse Assistant. Instructor Guide.
Missouri Univ., Columbia. Instructional Materials Lab.
This curriculum material covers the basic orientation and necessary skills which would enable the practicing Certified Nurse Assistant to be trained as a Restorative Nurse Assistant. The shift in emphasis from maintenance care to restorative care in the long-term care setting has created a need for trained paraprofessionals who are competent in the special knowledge and skills to assist in therapeutic rehabilitation as prescribed by the physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy consultants. The guide contains 33 lesson plans grouped into seven units covering the following topics: introduction to restorative nurse assistant; communications; social-psychological aspects of long-term care; functional anatomy and physiology; functional significance of common health problems; cognitive loss and memory impairment; and specific restorative techniques. Each lesson consists of the following components: scope of unit; lesson objectives; information assignment; references; introduction; outline; summary and conclusion; interaction items; classroom/laboratory activities; and evaluation items with answer key. The module also contains sample chart notes written by a nurse and a glossary. (KC)
