This textbook is a seventh-year reader. The book provides daily systematic practice in readings not too difficult for comprehension and yet embracing various styles of literary workmanship and illustrating all the different forms of English composition. Many of the selections are introduced or followed by historical or bibliographical notes. Writings by authors such as Sir John Lubbock, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Henry Wotton, James Fenimore Cooper, Lord Byron, Thomas Carlyle, and Sir Walter Scott are presented.
