Vocational Identity and Career Construction in Education. Advances in Educational Marketing, Administration, and Leadership (AEMAL)
Fidan, Tuncer, Ed.
IGI Global
Over the years, careers have transformed to be flexible and changing rather than stable, life-long commitments to an organization. As such, making work meaningful, controlling the work environment, and taking the opportunity to get required training for the next job are as important as the financial advantages. Educators' careers cannot be isolated from the rest of the labor market, and these developments are expected to influence the career decisions of educators. "Vocational Identity and Career Construction in Education" uses career construction theory to investigate objective factors influencing career choices and paths of educators, including factors influencing vocational personality development, career counseling activities, transition from school to work, adaptation to different work environments, and meaning of work for educators. Featuring research on topics such as diagnosing career barriers, person-environment fit, and workforce adaptability, this book is designed for educational administrators, human resources theorists, students studying career-related subjects, and practitioners working in managerial positions in private and public educational organizations. This book contains the following chapters: (1) Reconsidering the Career Construction in Modern Era (Gökhan Arastaman); (2) Career Patterns and Developmental Tasks in Career Development (Inci Öztürk Fidan); (3) The Turkish Academic Labor Market as an Ecosystem (Yehuda Baruch and Tuncer Fidan); (4) Important Factors in Vocational Decision-Making Process (Ümüt Arslan and Mustafa Kilinç ); (5) Promoting Student Creative Problem-Solving Skills: Do Principal Instructional Leadership and Teacher Creative Practices Matter? (Ibrahim Duyar, Keri D. Mina, and Jeremy S. Owoh); (6) Transition From School to Work: A National Perspective (Çigdem Apaydin); (7) Career Journey: Career and Life Design (Ebru Oguz and Kamil Kasaci); (8) An Exploration of Career Adaptation of Teachers: A Comparison Between Public and Private School Teachers (Mehmet Hilmi Koç); (9) The Old-Generation School Managers and the New-Generation School Managers From the Aspect of Career Adaptability (Caner Cereci); (10) Vocational Personalities of School Principals: A Phenomenological Study (Ahmet Bozak and Tuncer Fidan); (11) Bourdieu's Habitus for Academicians: Is Social Justice for Academicians Only a Fancy Phrase in the 21st Century? (Eda Basak Hanci-Azizoglu); (12) Teacher Leadership as a Teacher Career Path (Ali Balci); (13) Academic Leadership (Erkan Kiral and Ramazan Basaran); (14) Women Principals' Career Paths: Difficulties, Barriers (Bilgen Kiral); and (15) Scientific Publishing in English for Non-English-Speaking Academicians: Does Non-English Mean Unscientific in Academia? (Eda Basak Hanci-Azizoglu).
