What Do You Really Want? How To Set a Goal and Go for It! A Guide for Teens.
Bachel, Beverly K.
This book explains the importance of goal setting for the adolescent reader. It describes why goal setting is helpful; how goals help students accomplish what they want; and how they can make them a part of their everyday life. Throughout the book are tips, advice, and reflections from adolescents and adults about how goal setting has helped them. The book addresses the following questions for adolescents: (1) how to set goals for a set period of time; (2) ways to determine the hurdles that need to be overcome to reach these goals; (3) determining who to go to for help; and (4) what are the rewards for reaching the goals. After an introductory section, Part 1 explains how to decide which are the right goals for each adolescent. Part 2 discusses a goal setting action plan. Part 3 describes ways to implement a plan. Part 4 talks about the rewards and celebrations of meeting the goals. Throughout the book are reproducible pages that adolescents can use as worksheets to help with the process of goal setting. The resource section lists 20 books, 7 organizations, and 4 Web sites that can be referred to for additional information. (JDM)
