The One Hour College Applicant: You Don't Need To Read a 300-Page Book To Apply to College! Revised Edition.
Rochester, Lois; Mandell, Judy
This book is designed to provide the vital advice and information students need for the college application process, in an easy-to-read format. The first four chapters give general information about colleges and admission requirements, with the following titles: "Thinking about College"; "Overview of Colleges"; "What Do Colleges Consider for Admission?"; and "Standardized Tests." Chapters 5 through 10 go through the admissions process from beginning to end, with: "Getting Started: What Do You Need in a College?"; "Making Your List"; "Deciding Where You Will Apply: Campus Visits and Interviews"; "Applications and Final College Choice"; "Admissions Process Calendar"; and "Financing College Costs." Chapter 11, "What If?", addresses a number of special situations that might occur, such as "what if you completed high school a year or more ago and now want to attend college?"; "What if you and your parents disagree about your college choices?"; and "what if you're a Hispanic student and need educational guidance not provided by your high school?" The final chapter lists over 100 organizational and published resources for additional information on topics covered in the book. It also contains a sample letter requesting information from a college, a sample thank-you letter to an interviewer, and sample essays. (JDD)
