Know Before You Go! Utah's Off-Highway Vehicle Education Student Workbook.
Utah State Dept. of Natural Resources, Salt Lake City. Div. of Parks and Recreation.
This document is intended to teach the riders of off-highway vehicles (OHVs) how to ride safely and legally on Utah's public lands and how to take care of the places in which they ride. OHVs are all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), off-highway motorcycles, and snowmobiles. Receiving a passing grade on the final test and in an associated course on driving skills results in an education certificate from the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation. The first eight chapters of the workbook are called the pre-ride module and are a general introduction to all OHVs. These chapters explain the types of OHVs, what parents should consider when deciding whether to permit their child to ride an OHV, applicable laws and responsibilities, environmental awareness, safety equipment, getting ready to ride, being in control, and survival emergencies. Separate modules cover skills and information particular to ATVs, snowmobiles, and off-highway motorcycles. A short multiple-choice quiz follows every module. A glossary, answer key for the quizzes, and a six-item bibliography conclude the publication. (CML)
