Teaching Abroad. The Learning Traveler, Vol. 3.
Connotillo, Barbara Cahn, Ed.; Jackson, Walter, Ed.
Information about teacher exchange programs around the world is provided, including faculty needs as reported by foreign governments, and the approximate number of faculty positions available annually within American international schools abroad. Questionnaires were sent to foreign governments, the U.S. government, U.S. and foreign private sponsoring agencies, and American and international schools abroad, generally on the elementary and secondary level. Entries are listed alphabetically by country and region and include: the country's or institution's academic calendar, language of instruction, faculty needs and composition, restrictions, positions available according to level of instruction and subject areas, academic and language prerequisites; average length of contract and renewal options; salary/stipends and fringe benefits; application deadlines; and contact persons. Also included are: descriptions of organizations and agencies that provide information or publications to assist U.S. nationals seeking overseas employment; names and addresses of foreign embassies located in the United States; a list of foreign currency and the exchange-rate equivalency in U.S. dollars; and an eight-page annotated bibliography that covers travel, work, and study abroad, as well as information on overseas schools and postsecondary institutions.
