Summer Learning Options U.S.A. A Guide for Foreign Nationals.
Connotillo, Barbara Cahn, Ed.; Chasan, Gail A., Ed.
Information is provided on U.S. summer learning offerings, such as courses, institutes, and workshops, that are open to foreign nationals but about which information is hard to find. While many of the courses and programs are strictly academic, others provide a cultural orientation to the United States, and some mix academic or vocational training with recreation. Questionnaires were sent to about 2,600 professional associations, 2,900 colleges and universities, and 600 trade and technical schools. The programs are divided into 15 fields of study, as well as subfields. For each program, information is provided on: the program title, the sponsor, location, subject matter, dates and/or duration of the program, methods of instruction, credits offered, services for foreign nationals, enrollments, eligibility, costs, scholarships, type of housing offered, and contact person. An introductory section covers: U.S. government regulations affecting foreign nationals, arrival and travel in the United States, housing and hospitality, and costs and scholarships. Also provided is information on U.S. service organizations that provide housing, study programs, counseling, information services, and publications. A six-page annotated bibliography and sponsor and state indexes are included. (SW)
