Designed for individual study and not formal classroom instruction, this rate training manual provides subject matter that relates directly to the occupational qualifications of the Engineering Aid (EA) rating. This eight-chapter volume focuses on administrative matters, mathematics, and basic drafting. Chapter 1 discusses the scope of the EA rating, requirements and procedures for advancement, and how to make the best use of the manual. Chapter 2 discusses the EA's administrative and supervisory duties, safety responsibilities, purpose of the Personnel Readiness Capacity Program, and other areas. Chapter 3 deals with EA mathematics, mechanical aids used for making computations, and units of measurements. Chapter 4 discusses basic drafting equipment and supplies. Chapter 5 explains basic drafting principles and techniques using the drafting equipment described. Chapter 6 examines the techniques of freehand and mechanical lettering. Chapter 7 describes the use of basic drafting equipment needed in preparing drawings. Methods of projection used in showing objects on drawings are described and illustrated in chapter 8, as well as methods and techniques used in freehand drawing. A glossary, information on the metric system, and sets of mathematical tables are included in appendices. Assignments (in multiple choice format) are also included for each chapter. (JN)
