Improving Practice through Outcomes Based Planning and Assessment: A Counseling Center Case Study
Reynolds, Amy L.; Chris, Stephen
Journal of College Student Development, v49 n4 p374-387 Jul-Aug 2008
Addressing the increasing psychological needs on campus is a central mission of most college counseling centers. In addition, many centers are expected to contribute to student academic success and retention. Through the use of outcomes based assessment, which examines the needs, expectations, and perceptions of students, counseling centers can develop state-of-the-art services. This article explores the impact of an outcomes based assessment and planning process at a college counseling center and its influence on the services and practices of the center. Implications for future research and practice and the relevance of this outcomes based assessment project for other student affairs units is also explored. (Contains 5 tables and 1 figure.)
