Biennial Report on Higher Education Performance (Discussion Item).
Indiana State Commission for Higher Education, Indianapolis.
This document, the 1987-89 statewide (Indiana) performance report, addresses 14 objectives that the state, through its educational institutions, strived to achieve. The report is organized around the strategic directions adopted by the State Commission for Higher Education as part of its work plan for 1987-90. The objectives successfully achieved include: selectively attracting and retaining faculty with funds provided for that purpose, increasing the amount of computer time available for students, increasing the availability of off-campus programs, and increasing support for economic development. Three objectives were partially met: maintaining and upgrading facilities, increasing the use of contemporary technology, and improving minority participation. Seven objectives were not met in 1987-89; these were: reducing the age of instructional equipment, reducing reliance on part-time faculty, establishing measures of undergraduate program quality, establishing measures of graduate and professional program quality, demonstrating the effectiveness of remedial programs, increasing campus-based student financial aid, increasing assistance to local school corporations, and increasing the financial support obtained from non-state sources. A summarization of each of the 1987-89 performance objectives is appended. (GLR)
