Private Foundations. SPEC Kit 22.
Association of Research Libraries, Washington, DC. Office of Management Studies.
Because of the variety in the nature and interests of foundations, libraries often seek an understanding of several foundations' interests, funding history, future plans, and strategies in terms of their own needs before approaching a single foundation. A review of foundation giving within the past few years shows that construction and expansion of facilities, the development of special collections, microfilm conversion, cooperative endeavors, and the publication of indexes, catalogs, and bibliographies, have received the most attention from foundations. The kit contains the following 12 documents: (1) selected portions of The Foundation Center Annual Report; (2) Listing of Foundation Center National and Regional Collections; (3) How to Find Facts on Foundations; (4) Foundation Center Associates Program; (5) Guidelines for Getting a Grant; (6) What Makes a Good Proposal? (7) What Will a Foundation Look for When You Submit a Grant Proposal? (8) Summary of Data Concerning Selected Foundations Which Have Contributed to Libraries since 1972; and selected portions of annual reports from (9) The Kresge Foundation; (10) The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; (11) The Rockefeller Brothers Foundation; and (12) The Tinker Foundation. (THC)
